FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MEREK, exactly?
MEREK is a rural coworking space designed for people who want to focus, create and live with intention. It combines work, living and community into a single environment, built around the idea of productive isolation.
Who is MEREK for?
MEREK is designed for digital nomads, artists, creators and founders who value focus, quiet and meaningful work. If you need constant stimulation, social activity or a fast-paced environment, MEREK may not be the right fit.
Can I arrive and leave on any day?
We prefer Sunday arrivals for our weekly group onboarding (dinner, introductions, house tour), but it is flexible. Contact us to arrange a different day and we will make it work.
Is MEREK a hotel or a retreat?
MEREK is a working environment, not a traditional accommodation. People come here to work, think and spend time in a focused setting — not just to rest or disconnect.
What is the minimum stay?
The minimum stay is 7 days. This allows enough time to settle in and experience the space beyond a short visit.
Is MEREK open in winter?
Yes. We operate year-round. Winter brings snow, silence, and a very different kind of beauty. The road is accessible; we keep it clear. Some guests find winter the most productive season of all.
How does the application process work?
MEREK uses a simple application system. You submit a request, and we review it to ensure alignment with the space and community. And after, we follow up to confirm the booking.
What is “productive isolation?
It means removing unnecessary noise while maintaining meaningful human connection. You can work deeply without distractions, while still being part of a community.
What is the cancellation policy?
Full refund if cancelled 14 or more days before arrival. If you cancel within 14 days, the 30% deposit is retained. We do our best to be flexible for genuine emergencies — just contact us.
Is MEREK a party venue?
Not primarily, but MEREK does host events. The Merektronik festival and Merek Open Stage happen in summer. Quiet hours are 22:00–10:00 every day. If you want guaranteed calm, avoid July–August festival dates.
How social is MEREK?
Social interaction happens naturally, not by design. You can spend most of your time working alone, or join shared meals and gatherings when you feel like it.
What kind of people stay at MEREK?
MEREK brings together people from different fields — digital nomads, developers, designers, writers, artists, entrepreneurs and creators. What they share is a focus on producing meaningful work and respecting the space.
Is the internet reliable?
How quiet is it really?
What facilities are available?
MEREK includes coworking areas, accommodation units, shared kitchens and outdoor spaces integrated with nature — all designed to support both work and daily life.
Are there events or activities?
Experiences such as workshops, gatherings or small events may take place. They are a natural extension of life and work at MEREK, shaped by the people and the moment.
How do I get there?
MEREK is located in Düzenli Village, Şavşat, Artvin. It can be reached by a combination of air and road travel. Detailed directions are available on the Location page.
Is MEREK open year-round?
Yes — and each season offers a different rhythm, atmosphere and way of experiencing the space.
What makes MEREK different?
MEREK is not just a place — it’s n ecosystem. It brings together environment, community and structure to support focused work and meaningful living.
Is MEREK for everyone?
No. MEREK is designed for a specific way of working and living. If it resonates with you, it can be highly valuable. If not, it may not be the right place.
Can I stay for just a few days?
The space is designed for longer stays that allow you to fully experience its rhythm. If you want to stay between 4-6 days, you can apply to stay. You will need to make a payment for one week.
Is food provided at MEREK?
Each house has its own kitchen, allowing you to cook your own meals. A restaurant will be available once completed.
Can I come with my partner if they are not a digital nomad?
Yes. Your partner doesn’t need to be a digital nomad. If you’re planning to come together, please mention it in your application so we can plan the stay accordingly.
Can I come with a group or friends?
Small groups are welcome, as long as they align with the way MEREK works. The space is not designed for social trips or large group stays. If you’re applying as a group, please include the details in your application.
Can MEREK host small groups or retreats?
Yes — MEREK is well suited for small, focused groups such as yoga retreats, creative residencies or sports teams. These stays are built around a shared purpose and alignment with the environment. Each request is evaluated individually to ensure it fits the structure and community. If you’re planning a group stay, please include the details in your application.
